Herrin's Yamaha R6 Personal Set-up E-mail

Josh Herrin has been riding a Yamaha YZF-R6 for a couple of seasons and once he got the clip-ons and rearsets dialed-in to his liking they haven't moved.  That didn't stop Dave Williams from pestering Josh about the custom set-up that he uses. We also got the 411 DL inside scoop info on his custom All-American themed leathers for the 4th of July weekend.  This video is brought to you by our dear friends at www.SportbikeWrench.com.

I've been racing for over ten years in England, UK and I have never ever heard
of anyone setting the brake lever to reach the bar before. Is he serious?? What
happens when the fluid hots up etc.

I know he is an unbeleivable talent,
(far more talented than I) but that still sounds like a really bad idea to me.
When my lever approaches the bar I start sweating ;-) Dave it would be really
interesting if you were to grab a chance to ask one or two other front running
AMA stars what they think of Josh Herrin's unusual brake lever preferences.

Great interview, Josh was very forthcoming. I also liked his tip on the pad
on the tank, I might try that, it sounds a lot safer to me!

brake fade is dailed out on the fly with that knob on the left clip-on that he
was showing us and while hes out on the track he can make those adjustments to
keep the lever at that stoping point. to Josh this is his own ABS, you know how
these kids are today with their video games. with respect-redheadrider

Good point readheadrider well made, that must be their security against possible
brake fade. And hay it obviously works for him ;-) but I still wouldn't want to
be adjusting a knob on my front brake during a race thats for sure. I think it
would still be very interesting to see if others are doing that Dave.

All the aftermarket master cylinders have an adjuster for brake fade in a race.
Moss points it out on Mladin's bike walk around video. Most are a little wheel
knob.
We will install an Accassato master cylinder soon on our project bike
that has a button you push instead of a wheel to adjust the lever for brake
fade.

Thanks Dave. So much technology on race bikes now.
